Finding Solutions Since 2003

Gregg Carpenter Sr., Carpenter Metal Solutions founder and owner

From their founding in 2003, Carpenter Metal Solutions continues to drive innovative recycling solutions and capture commercial value down the supply chain to achieve exceptional returns for their clients. Beginning as an international metal consulting firm, Carpenter Metals serves clients in 28 states and across all of America. Their business has grown over the last 15 years into a full-service recycling company with locations in Ohio and Alabama.

Their primary business of recycling metal evolved in 2013 with the addition of postindustrial plastics. After finding that several of their metal customers lacked expertise and competent partners to recycle their plastics, Carpenter Metals began to focus their investments and energy in developing a plastics business unit. They opened a plastic grinding and baling operation in Alliance as well as a trading and warehousing operation in Fort Payne, Alabama. The Alliance facility serves as their exporting hub. Working with overseas buyers and World-Class US Manufacturers, they built their positions as a premium provider of Prime, and Semi-Prime plastic pellet and pellet substitute products.

Expanding & Making Alliance Proud

When Carpenter Metal Solutions opened their first location, they were in an office location on Union Avenue in Alliance, where they enjoyed the views and energy of the Mount Union campus. However, when they entered the retail operation in 2011, they began targeting a search for a new facility in Stark, Columbiana, or Carroll counties.

The Alliance Area Development Board and then Director Tom Pukys were helpful in their search and purchase of the Star Bronze in Alliance. This facility dates back to the turn of the century. Much of the property was overgrown and needed work, but Carpenter Metal Solutions was very excited to take the next step as a business, in spite of the challenges. Carpenter Metal Solutions turned to the Alliance planning commission where they worked with Bob Akins and Akins Land Surveying. In need of the city’s support to revitalize the old property, Carpenter Metal was very pleased with their support from Mayor Alan Andreani, and the City Council on this project that would bring opportunities to Alliance for the city’s underemployed.

The business grew slowly at first with just a handful of local employees using a small portion of the facility. However, driven to meet the requirements of the State of Ohio for a scrap metal recycling facility, Carpenter Metal invested tens of thousands of dollars on state-of-the art software, computers and cameras. They worked with many local contracting firms in Alliance including Pauli Electric, Burden Electric, Albright Electric, RWJ Corporation, Compu-Tek, ACR Computers, Leonard Hardware and many more to turn a once thriving small corner community into a recycling center that can make Alliance proud!

Happy to Call Alliance Home

Carpenter Metal Solutions decided to expand their wholesale scrap metal recycling business in Alliance by adding several buyers and trucks to the Alliance operation. In October of 2018, Carpenter invested over $100,000 in a large baling operation designed to process most aluminum and copper products. In the next 12 months, Carpenter Metal Solutions fully intends to expand their metal recycling business unit, with new equipment, more state-of the art vendor support software, and rail opportunities – all designed to meet the needs of their growing NE Ohio customer base.

“Looking back over the last 15 years, we are more than happy to call Alliance Home,” said Gregg Carpenter Sr., the Carpenter Metal Solutions founder and current owner. “Our employees are our backbone – we have the best people shipping the best products to the four corners of the world.”
