Alliance Mission Encounter

What they did:

  • For 7 years, Mission Encounter has helped complete improvement projects for dozens of homes in Alliance

This summer, First Baptist Church, along with 11 other Alliance churches, worked on several projects including painting, step and rail repair, porch repair, painting and installation of a fence and wheelchair ramp.

Annual Backpack Giveaway to the Youth of Alliance

Alliance Evangelical Friends Church

What they did:

  • Gave away more than 1400 backpacks filled with pencils, crayons, glue, binders and more
  • Had more than 80 volunteers at the event to not only help give out the backpacks, but also give every family a delicious lunch
  • The event is celebrating its 10th year

A Collaborative Effort

Organization:
Alliance Municipal Courts, Family Community Services and City Schools

What they are going to do:

  • Establish a summer GED program for Alliance residents

The goal is to have community members receive their GED and then go on to the Adult Education Program and develop a skill set for future employment.

Collaborative Community Garden Scape

Organization:
Alliance for Children and Families Inc.

What they are going to do:

  • For many years, residents of the community and the Mastroianni Family Center and Shelter have enjoyed a beautiful garden, thanks to several special people and organizations
  • The Mini Grant will be used to put a stairway and seating area in at the Mastroianni Family Center and Shelter garden
Camp Connect

Organization:
Maranatha Church of God

What they did:

  • Hosted 70 local children, nearly all from Alliance, for 5 days of overnight camping (July 20 – 25)
  • The kids participated in dozens of counselor-lead activities including:

Hiking, archery, cooking, painting, craft making and more. And we couldn’t leave out the important time around the campfire at night!

Water Safety for Preschoolers

Organization:
The Stuckey Family Interfaith CDC and YMCA

What they did:

  • Purchased puddle jumpers for kids learning to swim and for any kids using the pool

Used the Mini Grant to help pay for a life guard this summer as well.

Greening Parkway Elementary

What they are doing:

  • Planting trees around the playground at Parkway Elementary in October

Adding landscaping and other features to make the area around the playground more beautiful.

Hester Mini Park Tree Planting

Keep Alliance Beautiful/Shade Tree Commission

What they are going to do:

  • Hester Mini Park is a highly-utilized playground for the people of Alliance
  • The Mini Grant will be used to plant trees and bushes to beautify the park

Warm Up Alliance

Pepin’s Place

What they did:

  • Worked with The Rodman Public Library’s Knit Wit Group to create more than 250 handmade scarves for those in need this winter
  • Made scarves out of all kinds of yarn, ranging from wool to llama
  • Giving scarves to all kinds of organizations, ranging from the Salvation Army to the Domestic Violence Shelter

Sing for Your Supper Project

Family Empowerment Ministries

What they are doing:

  • Sing for Your Supper is an exciting, new youth group designed to help the youth of Alliance, age 5 – 18 learn how to sing and cook
  • The group’s first meeting was on Friday, Sept 4th at 5:30pm at Spirit of Faith CC. of Ohio, College Plaza
  • Once the group is up and running, they plan to take their talents into the community to sing for church groups, nursing homes, community events and more

2015 Caboose Concert Series

What they did:

  • Organized and funded 10+ musical performances all summer long at the corner of Main St. and Mechanic Avenue
  • One featured event was the Blues and BBQ event on June 6th

Beautifying the Mabel Hartzell Historical Home Grounds

  • Planted flowers, cleaned the grounds, and beautified the landscaping around the Mabel Hartzell Home
  • The Mabel Hartzell Home, located directly across from Earley’s Hill Park, is a showplace on the north side of Alliance

Life Skills for Kids

What they are doing:

  • Partnering with New Direction and James Gray to provide life skills classes for 30-45 kids age 8-17 years old
  • Provide growth and learning through equine related activities
  • Mini Grant will be used to provide transportation, access to horses and trained behavioral experts

Clean Up Alliance and Teach Responsibility

  • Building leadership skills and teaching responsibility for New Direction kids ages 5-17
  • The group will design and create a team t-shirt then go about cleaning up the surrounding neighborhoods of Snodgrass Park
  • The Mini Grant will be used for t-shirts and cleanup supplies
Healthy Lifestyles

Organization:
East Alliance Empowerment Group

What they did:

  • Brought creative healthy activities to Alliance residents
  • Hosted 2 boxing demonstrations and 8 Zumba classes at Maple Park from July to August
  • The Mini Grant was used for food and instructors to teach the classes
